Fear of heights, or acrophobia, is one of the most common phobias faced by many South Africans. The #PlayAtHeight Sky Bar bungee adventure centre provided the perfect opportunity for me to see the breathtaking Johannesburg skyline while facing my fears.

Located just opposite Montecasino in Fourways, this bungee tower is the perfect combination of creativity and engineering ingenuity with a bungee jump extension and a 360 degree view of Johannesburg from the fully stocked Sky Bar.

Upon arrival, each jumper is weighed and is expertly matched with the appropriate bungee jump cord.

This is followed by an elevator lift to the bungee pad. The efficient, yet effective, safety checks put my mind at ease, while the friendly staff were able to help me laugh off the fear.

After strapping in, it was time to step up to the plank. The fact that the jump happens in open-air (with no nearby buildings/walls/caverns) provides a great deal of comfort as any irrational fear of hitting something is effectively abated.

After jumping, the staff member carefully lowered me onto the green grass pad where they unclipped the cord from my ankles.

A post-jump elevator ride to the top reunited me with my friends and soon I was happily enjoying a moment of celebration at the 360 view Skybar.

An easy and accessible way to get the heart pumping with zero fuss and loads of fun!
